Here’s my favorite classic waffle recipe which makes about 8 waffles. They freeze well for quick weekday breakfasts. If you want the waffles less sweet for savory style (see pic below) use just one tablespoon sugar.
I like my waffles topped with berries, toasted nuts, maple syrup and butter.
Other good savory ideas...sautéed mushrooms and a fried egg....bacon and scrambled eggs....avocado, prosciutto, tomato and basil...
Classic Waffles
2 cups flour
2 Tbs sugar
1 tsp baking powder
1 tsp salt
2 eggs, room temp
1 1/2 cups warm milk
4 Tbs unsalted butter, melted
1 tsp vanilla extract
Preheat waffle iron. Combine flour, sugar, baking powder and salt in a large bowl and whisk to combine.
In a separate small bowl whisk eggs, milk, melted butter and vanilla.
Pour the wet ingredients into the dry and whisk until blended.
Rub or brush waffle iron with butter or oil.
Ladle batter into the preheated waffle iron and cook until waffles are golden brown and crisp. Usually a light will go on or off!
Serve with berries, maple syrup, powdered sugar, whipped cream, etc.
